A poignant scene from Rugrats (Serious)

Have you ever had a scene from a childhood show that was poignant/emotional at the time and became even more so when you became an adult? I ask because I recently re-watched a Rugrats scene that has always stuck with me.

The scene in question comes from the season three episode “The Unfair Pair” and requires some background. At the beginning of the episode, the twins Phil and Lil are being put to bed by their parents. Their father tries to give them equal amounts of milk in their bottles. One ends up having just a little bit more, but the amount is close enough not to make a difference. Meanwhile their mother is changing them into their pajamas. One of them gets a tear in their top, so the mother borrows another one’s spare top from the …

Bad Clichés in Other Genres

We’ve all heard about bad clichés in the field of horror, but I’ve thought about bad tropes and plot devices from other genres. Whether these are all too common or have only appeared once or twice, they’re still aggravating.

Western- The hero of our story has been falsely accused of a terrible crime and is being pursued by a posse that wants to execute him. After an epic struggle, he finds the actual evildoers, clears his name, and is freed from the nightmare of having to flee for his very life. Near the very end, a woman, usually one who has been touted as a potential love interest, confesses to the hero, “I have something to tell you. I knew all along you were innocent, but I didn’t say anything because I was afraid.” ~blinks~ Excuse me, …

Scenes stuck in your head

This blog might be similar to the blog post Umbrello made years ago, “Childhood Nightmares: TV”. For those unfamiliar with it, posting may be closed, but I highly recommend reading it because that was one of the more interesting, unsettling, and intriguing blogs I’ve seen- https://creepypasta.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Umbrello/Childhood_Nightmares:_TV . Admittedly this blog probably won’t be as interesting. I just wanted to talk about scenes that have been kicking around in the recesses of my mind since I was about thirteen and a half years old, to the point that they’ve appeared in some of my work, and to give a platform to anyone who has experienced something like that too. This will be a long one.

The scenes in question are from the Power…

What subject matter have you included in stories because of personal fear

Sometimes we include certain subject matter in stories because we personally have fear or other personal feelings (good or bad) toward it. For me it's cerebrospinal fluid. I have a couple stories (on a different site) that feature it as a plot point. It probably seems like I'm ripping off Attack on Titan, but the truth is I've been squeamish about CSF since my senior year of high school (12th grade, age 17-18, 2000-2001). I learned that losing spinal fluid can cause severe headaches, and as a lifelong headache sufferer that had an impact on me. I recently found an article talking about loss of spinal fluid, but I had to stop reading it partway through because it made me feel unsettled and nauseous. I've used CSF in stories because A) …

Self-Censored Creepypastas

[I have an upcoming issue called “The Truth Will Out” which I’ve already written the draft for, but I probably won’t post it anywhere. There’s a scene in which a character is beaten. I thought the original scene was too brutal, so I toned it down by having the character already unconscious (which actually made more sense in the context of the story), changing the weapon involved, and skipping most of the actual attack (cutting from the start of the attack to the character waking up in the hospital with injuries). There was also a scene I rejected for being too disturbing, but then went back and added (It involved a character having a nightmare about finding a relative’s undead body).

I’ve also practiced some self-censorship in my comics, su…

Self-Rejected Creepypastas

Most if not all of us have had stories rejected, but how many of us have rejected our own stories or story ideas for whatever reason?  There have been times I thought of a story idea, and maybe even started on a draft, but then I decided not to write the story for one reason or another. Be warned that some reasons are better than others.

Unnamed mind control story- This is the saddest one. I had an entire draft written, but then deleted it. I wish I hadn’t done that. Even if you decide not to use a story, you can still use it for something or you may change your mind, so keep your drafts. The story involved two characters from my comics and was related to an issue I plan to do. One character is slowly, over the course of a month, brainwashe…

AFI's 100 Years, 100 Thrills

In 2001, the American Film Institute created a list called “100 Years, 100 Thrills” with its picks for the 100 greatest American thrillers. CBS aired a special about the list which I really enjoyed. Thankfully a channel called Old Dusty VHS Tapes has uploaded a copy onto YouTube- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfnS7wBh5XU . A couple segments are cut short for some reason (one of which is Titanic, which I’m perfectly fine with), and the special actually ruined the plot twist of Psycho (which is a bummer), but other than that it’s good. You normally think of horror and action, but this has a number of genres, such as war, science-fiction, western, sports, historical, and even family films. It also covers a number of decades, with the old…

It happened again (Grandma Scam)

Years ago I wrote a blog about a scam in which con artists call people’s homes and pretend to be a grandson or other relative to try to trick them into giving money. Well, yesterday it happened again. Someone called my house pretending to be my nephew and asking for my mother. I was about to mow the lawn when the call came. The caller ID showed an “Unknown caller” display with an unfamiliar number with an unfamiliar area code. I answered and the caller said, “Hello, Grandma [My mom’s name]! It’s me!” Immediately warning sirens went off due to the fact that I had encountered this scam before, the voice was definitely not my nephew (my mother’s only grandchild), my actual nephew never called my mom “Grandma [Mom’s first name]”, and, o…

Creepy topic for a children's show

This is another simulcast blog in that I'm posting it on three different wikis. You know how people write "Lost Episode" pastas about children's shows? Don't worry, this isn't one of them. This is just to talk about something which shows that from time to time there actually is a bizarre episode of a children's show. Years ago there was a show called Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! that was meant for preschoolers, and an episode called "Everything's Coming Up Wubbzy" had loneliness, corrupt scientific experimentation, radical hypnotism, and the loss of identity. You think I'm kidding? Here's the wikia page for it- https://wubbzy.wikia.com/wiki/Everything%27s_Coming_Up_Wubbzy The plot is one of the characters makes a helmet that can make whoever we…

Real ghosts captured (belated April Fools' Day joke)

You go on YouTube and there are all these videos which claim to catch actual ghosts on camera. I’m usually skeptical because a lot of things can be faked. However, I saw these videos and, wow, let me tell you, I really can’t deny the reality of what I saw. Take a look and judge for yourself.

The first one occurs during this video, with the part in question occurring from 2:35-3:11. The filmmaker is doing some urban exploring in an area apparently noted for sightings of a ghost. As he passes a power plant he sees something. At 2:43 you can hear him stop talking and then begin breathing heavily, almost crying, at the frightening specter he sees before him.

The second one is during this video, with the part in question occurring from 37:1…

Creepy Restaurant People

Something weird happened to me a few days ago. My aunt and I went to a local Lee's (a fried chicken restaurant similar to Kentucky Fried Chicken) and a guy behind the counter saw me and asked, "Hey, is that a blast from the past?" I didn't know what he was talking about, so after a confused pause I replied, "Maybe." I thought that maybe he was making a comment about my clothing, so I made a lighthearted joke. I turned my attention to the menu, but then he came into the main area and stood close to me. I looked at him and he finally asked, "April, right?" I told him, "No, my name's Kara," and he told me, "Oh, you look like a girl I used to work with!" He told me that I had a look-alike in a nearby town and added, "When you said, 'Maybe,' I …

Panic at the Corn Maze

I came across this blog I posted to the Creepypasta Wiki on October 5, 2014 and decided to post it here as well. I hope you enjoy!

I know that posting this might inspire someone to write a really bad pasta, but I think this is the funniest harvest/autumn story of the past few years. You know how corn mazes are popular this time of year? Well, sometime in the fall of 2011 a family trying to get through a corn maze panicked and called 911 (the American emergency system phone number). When the rescuers came it turned out that the family was only something like 10-15 feet (3-4.5 meters, if my calculations are right) away from the exit. If you don't believe me you can investigate yourself. I try not to be judgmental or uppity since I think we'v…

How do you feel when one of your stories is narrated?

First there's a quick note- This will be my first blog simulcast on the Creepypasta Wiki and Jay's Horror Network wiki. Excitement! :-D

Last night I was watching some videos on my iPad. I decided to search "Raidra creepypasta" in the off-hand chance someone had narrated another one of my stories, and someone had! Creeparoni had just done a narration of "The Melon Head Illustration". :-D I always feel excited and honored when someone narrates one of my stories. This morning I was watching a compilation of contestants on talent shows performing "Chandelier" by Sia. Most of them were on international versions of The Voice, and I realized that's what it feels like when someone narrates one of your pastas- it feels like when one of the judg…

Horror Villains Competition

Hola, mi amigos! Hope you're all doing well. I'll cut to the chase: we're having a writing contest based on horror villains. We are collaborating with the Villains Wiki to host a competition. We also have help from the Facebook groups Creative Writers and Fiction Writing. Here's the deal:

  • 1 Rules
  • 2 Time
  • 3 Prizes
  • 4 Closing

  • Each contestant will be given a villain to write a short story about. It must be between fifteen hundred and twenty-five hundred words.
  • Each story must be a horror story (dark humor and other darkened genres will be accepted).
  • Each story must meet basic grammar, spelling, and other writing guidelines.
  • Stories can be NSFW, but they can not involve graphic rape or pedophilia.
  • If your story is deemed to be below our quality stand…

Gone for an Undisclosed amount of time

Summer vacations coming up, which only means one thing...

Vacation!

Sadly, no. What it really means is that my laptop is going to be taken by the school.

So for an amount of time I will be offline. I can try to help and edit as much as I can, or maybe I'll get a new laptop. But for a little I'm not gonna be here. I'm not saying that I'm not coming back - but for about 3 months I'll be on only a little.

But... before I go I will try to be active alot. And I've come up with a sort of competition.

I found this, an old 19th century vampire novel. But - it is incomplete. I was thinking we could see who could write the best ending as an alternate ending to "Fragment of a Novel" (Which is the actual name). Please tell me if you like the idea.

Cleaning Up

I just wanted to say please clean up any red links as your surfing around. Don't delete any templates unless it's obviously only for something on CPW like Freestyle Contest or something, but don't delete anything that you don't know what it is. I really just want all the red links removed from the pages. I don't care if anything replaces them or if they float out there in the abyss of THN forever. Just do whatever you feel like doing, but if you're on a page, please consider cleaning it of red links or nonexistent categories. Thanks. Hope you're all doing well. Still up for any suggestions if anyone has any. Peese out.

Spreading the Word

I don't have any presence on social media, but if any of you do, please spread the word and drop the main page link anywhere and everywhere. I know we still have work to do, but I wanna go ahead and get some influx. Even if they just come and join chat. We could get lucky and find some contributors too. Thanks.

J.T.

Oh, and any ideas on how to get the site out there are welcome. I know Banning offered to tweet us and Facebook us once I get those things figured out.
